Baked Beans

A classic dish from our family’s deepest roots.

Ingredients
  • 2 lb Dry Red Beans
  • 2 cup Ketchup
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • Dash of Salt (two shakes)
  • Chopped Ham to Taste
  • Juice of Cooked Ham (If no ham juice, then use the bean juice by itself)
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°
  2. Cook dry beans in water in a kettle on the stove until they are soft (approx. 30 – 45 minutes)
  3. Drain the beans, but save the bean water
  4. Put the beans in an oven safe container
  5. Add remaining ingredients and mix well
  6. Add the ham juice and bean juice to the desired consistency
  7. Bake for one hour in the oven
  8. At 45 minutes check the beans to ensure the correct consistency
